A home owner has bizarrely been slammed on social media after she filmed a video of herself hosing her backyard while a ferocious fire engulfed her neighbour’s property.

The terrifying blaze broke out at a property – somewhere in NSW – at midday on Wednesday afternoon.

Footage of the wild scenes posted on social media shows the woman – a forensic fire technician – attempting to wet her yard and the outside of her house rather than the flames.

The video showed the huge blaze well alight after it appeared to have started inside the back bedroom of the home.

Plumes of thick smoke can be seen rising up into the air as the fire continues to burn uncontrollably while the woman is seen spraying water from her garden hose.

The home owner keeps her distance from the blaze as she sprays the water haphazardly across her lawn.

Moments later she attempts to get closer to the blaze raging over the neighbour’s fence in an apparent attempt to try and extinguish parts of the fire.

The water from the hose is clearly aimed in the wrong direction as she backs away from the fire.

Multiple dogs can be heard barking hysterically in the background.  Captions on the video detailed the moments leading up to the horrifying blaze.

‘My neighbours house caught on fire,’ the person who filmed the scene wrote.

‘I was outside with my dogs when it started.’

The woman noted that she heard a ‘pop bang’ sound, similar to that of a circuit breaker, before the fire took off.

She said the sound was followed by screams from the neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter.

The woman can be seen several metres away from the fence in the video as the fire continues to burn.

‘F*** me,’ she says. ‘That’s pretty f***ing bad.’

She instructed her daughter to ‘evacuate’ the home while she began to bizarrely yell ‘for someone to call for 911’.

The video then shows the woman throwing the hose away frantically as she begins to flee the scene.

‘F*** I’m out of here,’ she says.

She then indicates she called triple zero at 12.04pm – four minutes after the fire is believed to have started burning.

The video then cuts to the woman who appears to be standing underneath a pergola in her property.

She turns the camera on her phone around to face the burning home.

‘Oh my god, the whole back of it’s gone,’ she says.

She said she ‘suffered’ superficial burns to her face while she was watering parts of the fence and grass inside her property.

Daily Mail Australia contacted NSW Rural Fire Service for comment.

The woman’s act was blasted by social media users – some of whom were left stunned by her bizarre attempt at battling the blaze.

‘House next door is on fire & you’re watering your yard,’ one user said.

‘To confirm, you filmed a TikTok and splashed your hose around for 4mins BEFORE calling the Fire brigade…’ another wrote.

‘Maybe put the phone down and try a little harder next time.’

Others pointed out the woman was trying to save her own home from the fire by watering parts of the area where the fire had breached the gap.

‘They are doing that to prevent their house from catching on fire,’ one person wrote.

‘There was no way to save the house next door with that little hose. Watering their property protect their home [sic],’ another said.

The woman revealed later on in the video that her aim ‘wasn’t to extinguish the blaze’.

The woman said she told her daughter to 'evacuate' her home as the fire continued to burn uncontrollably, while she began to bizarrely yell 'for someone to call for 911,' after she was seen spraying water using her garden hose

She said she was watering the area to ‘keep the heat away from my house’.

‘I’m a qualified forensic fire technician,’ she wrote in the captions.

‘I knew what I was doing.’

She urged others to leave their homes straight away in a similar situation and said her act should not be attempted by those not qualified to carry out the task.
