Ricky Pearsall set for 49ers debut just two months after getting shot

Ricky Pearsall got shot two months ago — and now he’s about to play football again.

The San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver has yet to make his NFL debut, which was delayed after being the victim of a shooting during training camp, but he’s set to be activated to play this Sunday.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Pearsall’s status on Friday.

This week, the 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a high-profile Super Bowl rematch, and will be looking to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Pearsall was shot in the chest in late August by a robber in San Francisco, according to police reports.

Pearsall had been walking alone in San Francisco’s Union Square during the afternoon when a 17-year-old armed attempted to rob him of his luxury watch, and the struggle over the watch left the wide-out shot in the chest.

The University of Florida product was the 49ers’ first-round pick in June’s NFL Draft (No. 31 overall).

The 6-foot-1 Arizona native started his college career at Arizona State before transferring to Florida, suiting up for the Gators in 2022 and 2023.

As a senior, Pearsall hauled in 65 catches for 965 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

He also had three carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns.
