Richard Wilkins has interviewed hundreds of celebrities throughout his illustrious career – from the good to the bad. 

Now the the Weekend Today Entertainment Editor, 68, has revealed the worst interview he ever conducted was with Simply Red’s frontman Mick Hucknall. 

The television presenter said the English singer, 62, refused to shake his hand and was the ‘rudest person’ he’d ever interviewed.

Wilkins explained he had met with the rocker the night before and shook his hand as he presented him with a gold record at a music industry function. 

While the pair seemed amicable at first, the following morning things had taken a turn as Hucknall sat down with him for an interview.

‘I said, “G’day, Mick,” and held out my hand. He says, “I shook your hand last night, I don’t need to do it again,”‘ revealed Wilkins, who worked for MTV at the time, to The Sydney Morning Herald.

‘He’s subsequently divulged that he used to hit it pretty hard back in the day, so I don’t know whether he was on good stuff the night before. 

‘I remember my boss saying to me that day, “If anyone ever treats you like that again, just walk out the door.”‘

The Weekend Today Entertainment Editor, 68, has revealed the worst interview he ever conducted was with Simply Red’s frontman Mick Hucknall 

It comes just days after the Channel Nine showbiz reporter relived a cringeworthy moment with famed actor Keanu Reeves.

Wilkins shared a throwback video of the embarrassing 2021 interview as part of Dickie’s Diaries on 9Honey.

The Hollywood star shut down the veteran reporter after Wilkins admitted he did not understand the plot of The Matrix Resurrections, which Reeves, 58, starred in.

Reflecting on the 2021 incident with Keanu, Wilkins said he thought he may have offended the actor with a question about the plot of Matrix Resurrections.
