In the wake of Rex Heuermann’s arrest, Asa Ellerup is begging for privacy. In a statement (via People), she explained that her family and older neighbors have had their lives disrupted by the presence of police and the press. She said, “They deserve to live peacefully; they should be able to walk their dogs and go to the grocery stores without cameras shoved in their faces.” Ellerup then implored, “I am pleading with you all to give us space so that we may regain some normalcy in our neighborhood.”

Ellerup has been fighting back against public scrutiny as of late. She recently left her Long Island home so that authorities could conduct a thorough search of the property. Upon her return to the family residence, she yelled at reporters and gave a camera the finger, per the New York Post. She told a reporter, “Don’t talk to me. Wanna take pictures? Go ahead … Don’t talk to me.” When pressed about her living arrangements, Ellerup replied, “Please, leave me alone. That’s none of your business.”
