Police are advising residents in a street in Melbourne’s west to stay inside their homes as they negotiate with “an armed male” who allegedly shot at police.

“Police are currently negotiating with an armed male at a property in Leon Drive in Weir Views,” a Victoria Police spokesperson has said.

“The man fired shots at police before entering the house in Weir Views. No one was injured.

“The area surrounding has been cordoned off while the incident is underway. We will provide further information when it is available.”

Heavily armed police have been seen scaling rooftops and flooding nearby streets amid the siege.

Just before 6pm, police swarmed what appeared to be the house of interest and removed a toddler and a man.

They appear to still be searching for the alleged gunman.
