Two men are on the run after allegedly assaulting a 70-year-old man during a break-in at a home in Sydney’s south-eastern suburbs overnight.

Emergency services were called to the home on Jersey Street in Matraville after receiving reports of a break-in about 11.10pm.

Police said the pair approached a 65-year-old woman before entering the home.

One of the men then assaulted a 70-year-old man, causing injuries to his head and hands.

The men allegedly drove away in a blue Subaru XV after taking the keys.

The 70-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.

Detectives are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
