A renter has been left shocked after their real estate agent made an unusual demand following a routine property inspection.

The tenant shared an email they received from the agent on Tuesday telling them they need to make their bed.

‘I had an inspection of my flat today,’ the renter wrote on Reddit.

‘The real estate agent told me to make my bed.’

The frustrated tenant shared an image of the correspondence, which begins: ‘Good afternoon.’

‘Further to today’s routine inspection, please note that there are a few things which need to be attended to,’ the email continued.

‘This includes: The bed needs to be made.’

The renter went on to add that other things on the list were reasonable as they hadn’t been home for four weeks and the concerns were expected.

However, the tenant said they told the real estate agent they will not make their bed and it shouldn’t have been suggested in the first place.

Social media users were left shocked at the request, with many considering it as ‘petty’.

‘Your house is allowed to be lived in,’ one wrote, ‘and they can’t b**** about anything that isn’t damage or likely to cause damage.’

‘Show me in the lease where it says beds need to be made,’ another said.

‘What a joke.’

Other renters shared their property inspection horror stories, with one writing their real estate agent had even made their housemate’s bed whilst they weren’t there.

‘Last year I forgot I had an inspection at 9am and it was my first day off uni/work in two weeks,’ one renter said.

‘I woke up to the REA standing over me in bed who then proceeded to lecture me about some dishes in the sink.’

Another shared: ‘I had one talk about water droplets on the shower glass, because they showed up first thing in the morning and I had just had a shower.’

‘I got told off for dishes on the sink, I think the mould in the carpet and corners of the loungeroom ceiling are more worrying,’ one commented.

‘She shut up after that.’

One renter joked: ‘Did your mum conduct the inspection?’
