Ratepayers living in Melbourne’s north coughed up almost $20,000 for an extravagant farewell party for an outgoing chief executive.

Hume City Council hosted the party for Domenic Isola on April 15, 2021, at Broadmeadows Town Hall to “acknowledge” the chief executive’s contribution to the community.

The breakdown of the bill included $15,000 for food, $3600 for decorations and about $1000 for a floral tribute.

The figures were revealed in a freedom of information request made by councillor Trevor Dance.

Hume City Council chief executive officer Sheena Frost said the decision to host the event was not made by Isola.

“Mr Isola was not involved in decisions relating to the costs of the event as it occurred some months after he had departed,” Frost said in a statement.

The farewell event, held two months after he resigned from the council, was attended by about 300 people, including councillors, MPs and business leaders.
