Rangers’ late comeback bid falls short as spiral continues with loss to Blues

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Once again, a third-period push from the Rangers wasn’t enough.

The Blueshirts’ plummet continued with a 3-2 loss to the Blues Sunday night at Enterprise Center, which came despite a two-goal flurry in the span of 1:18 from the visitors in the final frame.

There wasn’t much competition in this one until the final 20 minutes, when the Rangers began to apply pressure in the offensive zone and create quality scoring chances after failing to do so through most of the first 40 minutes.

It’s not the first time the Blueshirts woke up in a last-ditch effort to salvage a game this season, but they have progressively gotten more worrisome as the on-ice product that precedes it continues to deteriorate.

Comparing the 2023-24 Rangers to the 2024-25 Rangers has been impossible to avoid for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because of how astonishing the disparity is between the two despite having almost all of the same players.

That might not remain true for much longer.

The Rangers’ deteriorating play is begging for more personnel changes.
