Severe storms with heavy rainfall are possible across parts of northern and western Queensland today.

Flood warnings and watches are in place across parts of the state, including Burnett River and Bohle River.

Flooding has also cut the Bruce Highway in parts of the north.

Whitsunday Coast Airport is advising travellers that access to the airport is restricted as the highway remains closed.

“We encourage all passengers flying through Whitsunday Coast Airport to stay in contact with their airline for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of their flight,” the airport said in a statement.
