A Queensland man’s hand was allegedly cut off using a samurai sword in an “unprovoked attack”.
A 25-year-old man from Dubbo had charges against him upgraded to murder today after Grant Peasley died in hospital.

The young man had been staying at his mother’s house in Millmerran for “several days” before the 56-year-old sustained critical injuries when a dispute allegedly broke out over a set of car keys.

“An unprovoked attack occurred as a result of a 25-year-old man demanding car keys,” Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said.

The accused killer’s mother has been distressed but assisted police since the “sad” domestic violence-related incident.

“She is going as best she can be, it’s obviously a very traumatic event,” McCusker said.

The 25-year-old was arrested on Sunday at a service station on the Gore Highway in Captains Mountain after leaving his mother’s home.

He’s been remanded in custody and will appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court later today.

Investigations are continuing.
