Green Day announced on Thursday they will return to Australia for their first local tour in eight years.

The American rock band announced on Instagram they will bring their Saviors stadium tour Down Under in March 2025 after promising to return to the country a year ago.

Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool, who last performed here in 2017, will kick off the Aussie leg of their tour in Melbourne at the Marvel Stadium on March 1.

They will then jet off to Engie Stadium in Sydney on March 3 and CBUS Super Stadium on the Gold Coast on March 5.

Green Day will celebrate 20 years since their breakthrough album Dookie, which was followed up 10 years later in 2004 by their hit punk rock opera American Idiot.

Fans can enjoy all the band’s greatest hits since their 1987 inception in Rodeo, California, right up until their 2024 record Saviors.

‘Australia has always been a big stop for us,’ bassist Dirnt told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday.

‘I feel like you guys really understand rock ‘n’ roll, and it’s great to be around people that… celebrate rock ‘n’ roll and have so many great heroes to its name.’

Fans will have their first shot at tickets during the artist pre-sale when it opens on September 16 at 1pm for the Gold Coast, 2pm for Melbourne, and 3pm for Sydney.

The Vodafone and CommBank MasterCard pre-sale will open on September 17 at 10am for Gold Coast, 11am for Melbourne, and 12pm for Sydney.

They planned to play four stadium shows in Australia at the time, and were going to be joined by fellow punk rockers Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
