Prince George and Princess Charlotte were on their best behavior at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday.
Fellow attendee Mark Tewksbury called Prince William and Kate Middleton’s eldest two children “incredibly well-behaved” in an interview with People.
The 54-year-old Olympian, however, noted that George, 9, and Charlotte, 7, also acted “a little like kids, a little like, ‘Wow, this is a lot.’”
Tewksbury explained, “For little Prince George, this will be him one day and he doesn’t really know that yet.
“And then I thought, ‘Ah, he’s just lost his great-grandmother,’” the athlete continued.
The royal siblings arrived at Webster Abbey with their mom, 40, on Monday morning, while the Prince of Wales, also 40, walked in a procession to the church from Webster Hall.
George wore a navy blue suit and black tie to the service, and his younger sister sported a black dress, a matching hat and a horseshoe brooch given to her by Elizabeth.
Their 4-year-old brother, Prince Louis, did not attend the event, presumably due to his young age.
When the late monarch’s casket made it to Westminster Abbey, the little ones joined their dad in the procession, walking in front of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
As they later exited the church, George was photographed being comforted by his great-aunt Sophie of Wessex. The countess placed a reassuring arm around his shoulders.
As for Charlotte, the princess broke down in tears outside and was comforted by her mom. Middleton placed a hand on her daughter’s back and held her hand.
Charlotte remained adorably aware of royal protocol, even coaching her older brother on how to conduct himself as they watched the coffin pass by on its way to Windsor Castle.
She leaned in, gestured with her arms and could be seen saying, “You need to bow.”
George listened to his sister, bowing when the time came as she curtsied beside him.
Elizabeth died on Sept. 8 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Her Majesty was 96.
Although Middleton told onlookers last week that Louis is struggling to understand the sovereign’s passing, the Princess of Wales added that her three children are still “doing well” amid the tragedy.
