Natalie O’Keefe woke to loud bangs around 7.15am this morning but she thought it was people breaking into her Mernda home.

“I heard another bang, crash, bang, crash… I jumped out of bed,” O’Keefe said.

Instead, the expectant mum found the ceiling in her loungeroom had fallen in.

O’Keefe called loved ones as she had become trapped inside.

Her mum then called triple zero.

“It just looked like ash everywhere… I could see building parts all over my hallway into my lounge room,” O’Keefe said.

“I was just so scared it was going to be a domino effect and this whole house roof was going to come do.”

The house was built about 15 years ago and O’Keefe, who works as a property manager, had been renting it for about two years.

She said she would have noticed if there were any leaks or signs of damage, due to her profession.

O’Keefe and her husband will stay with her family until builders can clear the mess and fix the roof.
