Australia is home to 10 new multi-millionaires after a NSW syndicate claimed the $40 million Powerball jackpot.

Thursday night’s draw gave the winners, who picked up their syndicate entries in Wentworth on the south-west NSW border near Mildura, a touch of $4 million each.

The winning numbers in draw 1424 were 10, 35, 27, 32, six, 14 and 31, and the Powerball was six.

One of the newly rich residents told lottery officials the news had sent her reeling.

“I just had a look! I can’t believe it!” she exclaimed, according to The Lott.

“We’re only a small town and it’s crazy to think there’s now 10 multi-millionaires here.”

Wentworth had a population of just 1500 people at the 2021 census.

The Lott said some other winners might not yet know the good news and encouraged entrants to check their tickets.

“While we’ll be reaching out to those syndicate members who registered their entries, there are a handful of people with unregistered entries who may not yet know they’re part of this winning group,” spokesperson Matt Hart said.

“These players don’t know each other as they simply purchased a syndicate share from their local outlet, but now they have one thing in common – they’re now all multi-millionaires.

The 10-member syndicate was the only winner from division one and picked up almost half a million dollars more on the back of 19 division two wins and four in division eight.

Shares in the winning syndicate were sold at Wentworth Lotto and News, 55 Darling Street, Wentworth.

Wentworth Lotto and News owner Rowan Congress was ecstatic.

“Oh, that’s beautiful!” she cried.

“That’s great news for Wentworth. We’re in the middle of nowhere!

“We’ve only been here for two years and this is the first division one win we’ve sold. How great that it’s a syndicate and lots of people get to share the prize.”
