CCTV footage acquired by 9News has shown how some posties treat packages when they think no one is looking – from throwing them over a fence to kicking them to the front door.

Brisbane resident Lucy Jane was horrified when she watched a garden ornament she ordered online being tossed from the delivery van to her front door – a distance of about 10 metres.

Her ornament was in pieces when she opened the box.

“He just picked up the package and he just threw the package, I was really surprised at just how disrespectful he had been… I couldn’t believe it,” Jane told 9News”

“It went from the front yard all the way down to almost the path.”

Jane isn’t the only one who has noticed recklessness from posties, footage provided to 9News shows multiple other incidents of packages being mistreated by delivery drivers.

”Nearly half of Australians have experienced an issue with parcel delivery in the past 12 months,” Compare the Market expert Chris Ford told 9News.

Of those surveyed, 25 per cent said their package didn’t arrive on time, 10 per cent said their package was damaged during transit, while a further 14 per cent said their parcel never made it to its final address.

“It is quite distressing for a number of Aussies who are about to enter peak season with Cyber Monday, Black Friday and Christmas right around the corner,” Ford said.

Consumer experts suggest contacting the business you purchased the goods from directly for a refund if a parcel is damaged, while they suggest taking out insurance for expensive items before they are sent in the post.
