A blender sold nationally has been recalled over fears the metal blades may break and the appliance may catch fire.

BlendJet’s BlendJet2 portable blender is sold in various colours and has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

According to Product Safety Australia, products with serial numbers 5201000000 to 5542999999 may be affected.

The serial number can be found printed on the bottom of the base.

“The metal blades may break while the blender is in use,” the recall notice said.

“The blender may overheat and catch fire when charging or while in use.

“There is a risk of serious injury from choking or lacerations if broken blade pieces become mixed with food or drinks and consumed. Injuries have occurred,” the recall notice said.

“There is a risk of serious burn injuries or property damage if the blender overheats or short circuits and catches fire.

“Fires with associated burn injuries and property damage have occurred.”

The product was sold nationally, internationally and online at The Good Guys, Kitchen Warehouse, Mini-Max, Camera Electronic, Wanderlust, Myer, Bi Rite, Harvey Norman, JB HiFi, Campus and Co and Costco.

The recalled blender was available for sale from October 1 in 2020 and November 1 in 2023.

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), which is responsible for the recall, is currently assessing a proposed remedy.

“We will update this notice when a remedy is available,” ESV said in the recall notice.

“Consumers can exercise their rights to a remedy in accordance with the consumer guarantees which may entitle them to a full refund or a replacement product that is free of defects.”
