After disappearing from shelves for over a decade, the beloved Polly Waffle is making a welcome return.
The nostalgic treat, now produced in Adelaide, will be available in a new bite-sized format, offering a contemporary take on the classic chocolate and marshmallow combination.
Robern Menz, the maker of FruChocs, acquired the rights to produce the Polly Waffle four years ago.
However, the production complexity of recreating the original bar led to the creation of bite-sized balls instead.
“We are talking about products that people have a great memory of, so we are tapping into that,” Robern Menz CEO Phil Sims said.
News of the Polly Waffle’s resurrection first reached online food reviewer Russell Stuart, who kept the confidential information a secret until becoming the first person to sample the new product this morning.
“These are definitely up there,” he said after getting a taste.
“I was surprised – I was nervous because I won’t hold back if something’s bad.”
The Polly Waffle bites will hit supermarket shelves on Friday.
