With the Queensland state election just 100 days away, a new poll has warned the government could face a landslide loss in October.
But with two-and-a half months until the election campaign starts, Labor insiders say they’re still hopeful of a comeback.
“David Crisafulli wants to get there without revealing his plans to Queenslanders,” Deputy Premier Cameron Dick said.
Mirroring the Redbridge poll revealed by 9News in June, today’s YouGov numbers place the LNP ahead 57 per cent to 43 on a two party preferred basis.
Opposition Leader David Crisaffuli leads by 40 points to 29 over Steven Miles as preferred premier.
Crisafuli today positioned the LNP as an alternative to Labor, who have been in government in Queensland for over 12 years.
“Queenslanders know they deserve better than what they’re getting,” Crisafuli said.
“In 100 days Queenslanders can vote for change and say time’s up for Labor.”
Queensland’s deputy premier conceded the polls paint a dire picture for Labor.
“David Crisafulli is a very real chance of becoming the next premier of Queensland in 101 day’s time,” Cameron Dick said.
That’s largely because the collapse of Labor’s vote appears to be entrenched.
It now sits below the level of Anna Bligh’s 2012 loss, when the ALP was reduced to 7 seats.
According to the polls, Labor’s primary vote is currently at 26 per cent – compared to the LNP’s 43, the Green’s 14 and One Nation’s 13.
Internal Labor polling obtained by 9News in July has the party behind 52.2 to 47. 8 per cent in two-party-preferred polls.
While Labor’s polling paints a better picture, if an election was held today, the government would change – and that’s something all the polls are unanimous on
