Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted abduction a female runner in Canberra’s Woden Valley.

The victim was running south on the greenbelt adjacent to Athllon Drive at Mawson AT about 3.10pm yesterday.

Police said a man walking in the opposite direction grabbed her and attempted to pick her up and carry her away.

After a short scuffle the woman managed to flee.

Police wish to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or any residents from the surrounding area who may have CCTV.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 170cm tall, with dark hair.

He was wearing a black puffer jacket, black shoes and a black beanie at the time of the incident.
