A police search is underway for an inmate who escaped custody at Silverwater Jail in Sydney’s south-west.

Gary Glover, 44, was last seen on Jamieson Street, Silverwater about 1.30pm today.

Police said they have been conducting inquiries to locate him.

Glover is described as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander appearance, is about 170cm tall and has a large build.

Police said he has brown eyes, black hair and a tattoo of flag on his neck.

He was last seen wearing a green shirt, green pants, black boots, and a yellow hi-vis vest.

Police urged anyone who sees him not to approach him, and to call Triple Zero instead.
