Police searched the surrounding area for clues including blood spots, clothes and potentially a murder weapon as part of their investigation.
“Today, strike force investigators… conducted a number of ground searches in the Merrylands area, including the vicinity of the crime scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.
Nic Gilbert has told of the moment he came home to find his wife’s body in their unit.
“I go to the back window thinking she’s asleep, she’s just not woken up and I threw a rock at the window to try and get her attention,” he said.
“I walked to the front, pulled a bin up and climbed over the balcony.

“I walked through the bedroom, Erin was on her back and it looked like she was choking on blood.”
Nic Gilbert was performing CPR when officers arrived.
Police superintendent Andrew Holland on Tuesday said Gilbert’s injuries were “very serious and severe” but that a cause of death was not known.
Investigations are ongoing but anyone with information is urged to contact police.
