Police have blocked a street in Weir Views as officers negotiate with an armed man

An armed man has fired at police before going into a home in Melbourne’s west as residents are warned to stay inside.

Witnesses said at least eight police vehicles were seen racing to the Weir Views housing estate at about 4pm on Tuesday.

Police said that a man fired shots at police before entering a home in Leon Drive.

No one was injured.

Officers are now negotiating with the man. 

‘The area surrounding has been cordoned off while the incident is underway, a Victoria Police statement read.

‘Due to operational reasons, we will not be in a position to provide a running commentary and will provide further information when it becomes available.

Footage of the scene showed officers carrying a baby. Nine News reported. 

Residents in the vicinity of Leon Drive have been ordered by police to remain inside until further notice.

One local told NCA Newswire that police were ‘everywhere’ in the surrounding streets, including armed officers.

Besides being told he could not leave his house, the resident said police had shared no information about what was happening.
