Pictures show how two police officers came close to being wiped out by a train after their vehicle landed on tracks at Mt Druitt in Sydney’s west.

The officers were chasing a speeding trail bike before they lost control around a corner.

The highway patrol unit was pursuing a motorcycle darting down Mount Druitt’s George Street about 4.40pm yesterday.

The police car became stuck on the tracks, with the two constables scurrying to safety right before a train barrelled past.

One track over and it would have been a very different story.

Witness Darlene Dabbagh said the offices gave her the thumbs up when they got out.

“There was smoke of course coming from the car and that’s when we really thought ‘this is serious’ because the car was so close to the rail for the trains going through to Penrith,” she said.

The officers suffered minor injuries and the motorcyclist is still on the run, according to NSW police.

The police car was towed off the tracks shortly afterwards.

Residents say dirt bike hoons are a problem in the area and often speed down the road.

“They use it as a race track,” resident Peter Batoroff said.

“It’s a danger to the public.”
