Police are investigating after a man died following a home invasion in Sydney’s west in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to an apartment on Union Road, Penrith about 1.30am.

There, officers were told that two people had broken into the unit and assaulted a man in what police described as a “targeted attack”.

A man in his 60s was treated by paramedics, but he died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be in his 60s.

Police said the man suffered multiple injuries, including to his head.

It is also believed two men forced their way into the unit.

Besides the victim, a second resident was in the unit at the time of the attack, and they are currently speaking to police.

The victim was known to police, Detective Inspector Michael Cantrell said..

A crime scene has been established with assistance from the state’s homicide squad.

Police said that two men of Pacific Islander appearance were seen allegedly leaving the scene towards Union Road.

Anyone with further information has been asked to come forward.
