Detectives are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Melbourne’s north this morning.

Police were called to Dalton Road in Epping about 10am after reports a car had mounted the footpath and hit a pedestrian.

The man who was struck died at the scene.

He is yet to be identified by police.

After hitting the pedestrian, the car continued along the footpath before hitting a pole and a building, according to police.

The driver was seriously injured and was taken to hospital by police.

Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the crash.
