A series of sexually explicit digitally generated images of students at a Melbourne high school have been circulated online.

Detectives are investigating after an “unknown number of formal photos of female students” at Gladstone Park Secondary College were manipulated using artificial intelligence technology before being released online.

In an email obtained by 9News, Principal Veronica Hoy said the school was aware some senior students had been sharing AI-generated images through social media and group chats.

The email was sent to the parents and guardians of the school.

Detectives confirmed they were first made aware of the incident yesterday.

“(We) are working to establish the number of victims involved in the incident,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“Police are currently providing support to identified victims, their families and the school. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.”

Addressing parents in an email, Hoy said described the incident as “misogynistic and disrespectful”.

“This kind of behaviour is entirely unacceptable at our school and appropriate disciplinary action has been taken,” the email said.

The targeted girls were in Years 9 to 12.
