A man who dropped a woman off to hospital with a suspected severed spine is being hunted by police after he mysteriously vanished from the scene.

The 37-year-old woman had arrived at the emergency department of Bankstown Hospital, in Sydney’s west, just before 1pm on January 12 with a gunshot wound to her torso.

The man, dressed in workout tights and a black hoodie, had dropped her off at the hospital but when police arrived he’d fled the area on foot, with his white Mercedes Benz sedan found abandoned nearby.

Police later pulled up at a home on Simmat Avenue at Condell Park where bullet holes and casings were found, and a crime scene was set up.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 175cm tall, with a medium build, and a dark beard.

At the time he was wearing a black hoodie and black shorts over full-length black tights.
