“Police found a 65-year-old woman suffering life-threatening burns,” Inspector Adrian Matthews said.

It’s understood she has burns to 90 per cent of her body and that a family member tried to help by placing her in a bath full of ice.

The fire broke out at 1.30pm today in Bribbaree, 50 kilometres north-west of Young in rural NSW.

Police launched an urgent manhunt for her 42-year-old son.

Hours later he handed himself in at Parkes police station, about 110 kilometres north of the burnt-out home.

No charges have been laid.
