Officers had attempted to pull over a white Toyota Prado in East Perth about 11am (2pm AEDT) today, however the driver allegedly failed to stop.

The chase ended up on the sand at Scarborough Beach, when the driver attempted to flee by getting into the water.

A witness told 9News the man tried to swim away before he was tackled by police.

Another witness said passers-by had to rush out of the way as the car sped down the beach’s amphitheatre to get on the sand.

A TikToker also said she was almost “ran over by a cop car” as officers tried to reach the man on the beach.

Footage from the scene shows the Prado on the sand with apparent damage to its wheels.
