A man’s body was found in a creek in Melbourne yesterday afternoon and police are appealing for witnesses to help identify him.

Around 2.30pm yesterday, emergency services found the deceased man in Merri Creek near Moreland Road in Coburg.

He was found in the water and police have so far been unable to identify the man.

A police statement said “officers are keen to speak with anyone who might have been in the area at the time”.

The man was wearing a light-coloured shirt, black shorts and black runners.

Police are yet to explain the circumstances of the man’s death and the investigation remains ongoing today.

Merri Creek runs from north to south through Melbourne’s north, with a popular walking trail following the water.

Police have also urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
