Nature has put on an unusual show to the delight of onlookers in a Western Australian community.

A pod of long-finned pilot whales was spotted 150 metres off Cheynes Beach this morning, about 60 kilometres east of Albany.

The footage was captured by a local caravan park.

A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions received reports of a pod of long-finned pilot whales found about 150 metres off Cheynes Beach this morning.

“Three DBCA officers are in attendance and will monitor the pod’s behaviour and movements over the next few hours,” a spokesperson said.

“We ask the public to keep their distance and refrain from approaching the pod via drones or vessels.”
