Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has taken to social media to announce his engagement to partner Jodie Haydon.

Sharing the news on X, also known as Twitter, the prime minister captioned a photo with Haydon, “she said yes”.

Federal ministers have wished the couple congratulations on the engagement.

“Love is a beautiful thing. I’m so happy for you both!” Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong posted on X.

“Congratulations!” Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil said.

Haydon was thrust into the spotlight shortly after the pair met while at a business conference in 2020.

“We were at a conference and I said ‘there’s got to be one south-Sydney person’ here and she yelled out,” Albanese told 60 Minutes in 2022.

“We met up for a drink… it’s a nice relationship.”

Albanese has been reluctant in the past when sharing information about his private life, he admitted before becoming the prime minister.

“It’s something I’m protective of,” he said.

“I’m the one running for public office. Jodie has to put up with, if we’re out having dinner, put up with people coming up and photos and all that.

“But it’s part of the deal. It’s part of who I am.”
