A passenger on a packed flight in India was arrested after he tried to open an emergency door mid-air to jump, police said.
Officials said Biswajit Debnath, 41, fiercely attempted to force open the emergency doors of an aircraft during a domestic flight from Guwahati to Agartala Thursday.
Chaos ensued after Debnath shot up out of his seat and headed for the doors, prompting one of the 180 passengers on board to rush after him in a desperate bid to stop him.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the passenger manhandle an emergency door as the aircraft neared its destination.
Crew members quickly intervened, however Debnath initially resisted being restrained, officials told Press Trust of India.
In an effort to restrain him, fellow passengers dragged him towards an empty seat where he remained until the plane landed safely.

Flight 6E-457 on Indian budget airline Indigo landed safely in Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
Upon arrival, he was arrested for “endangering the lives of hundreds of passengers” and for assaulting crew members onboard.
“Biswajit has confessed that he suffers from depression and was trying to jump from the flight by opening the emergency door mid-air,” police told the outlet.

Police said he had been battling depression prior to the ordeal.
He is due to appear in court Friday.

The ordeal comes just weeks after a crazed man yelling “Allahu Akbar” tried to open a door in the middle of a flight from Israel to England on Sept. 4 — before a brave passenger stepped up and tackled him.

Victor Troboloni, an Albanian who was on his way to visit his ailing mother in London, grabbed the hulking, unidentified attacker and held him down with other passengers while crew members zip-tied him.
Fellow passengers helped Troboloni hold him down until a flight attendant could find cable ties to restrain him until the plane touched down in Belgrade, Serbia.
In August, Delta passengers rushed to the aid of a flight attendant who was slashed by a man who allegedly threatened to decapitate her after their plane landed in New Orleans, subduing him until authorities arrived.
And back in March, a domestic United Airlines flight saw multiple passengers restraining a lunatic who allegedly tried to open an emergency door and stab a flight attendant.
