Locals have been warned to take care after a crocodile was spotted in Queensland floodwaters.

Parts of the state remain underwater after more than a metre of rain has fallen in some areas.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) shared the image of the crocodile swimming on the Bruce Highway near Proserpine, which has received 800mm of rain.

“Here’s just one of the reasons you should stay clear of floodwaters,” QFES said.

This is near where commuters have been stranded in their cars for two days along the highway, waiting for flood waters to recede.
