Phillies broadcasters ‘not a big fan’ of Francisco Lindor’s casual throw to first

The Phillies’ television broadcasters took some issue with Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor’s lob throw to first to complete a double-play.

In the fifth inning, with Kody Clemens on first, Edmundo Sosa lined a ball right at Lindor a short for an out.

Clemens broke for second right away so it made for an easy double-play for the first two outs of the innings of the Mets’ eventual 4-1 win at Citi Field on Wednesday.

Instead of a normal throw to first, Lindor chose more of a soft lob to first baseman Pete Alonso.

The ball bounced twice on its way to Alonso scooping it up in his glove.

During a reply on NBC Philadelphia, Phillies broadcasters Tom McCarthy and Ben Davis chatted about whether they had an issue with how Lindor handled the play.

“I’m not a big fan,” one said. “You could be a little bit more professional about it”

They felt the play was a little bit of of Lindor “showing me up a little bit” and rubbing “salt in the wound.”

“It is what it is,” McCarthy said. “It was gonna be a double-play no matter how he got it over there.”

It’s been a rough two days at Citi Field for the Phillies — already dropping the opening pair of games.

Their offense has struggled, scoring just one run despite nine hits in each game.

The defending National League champions are out to a sluggish start to the season at just 25-30, sitting 7.5 games behind the first-place Braves in the NL East.
