Motorists are being warned that petrol prices have hit their peak across Australia’s capital cities as the long weekend inches closer.
The average price for unleaded is now 197.6 cents per litre, while the average for diesel is 181.5 cents per litre.
The increases come ahead of the June long weekend, prompting a warning from the NRMA for motorists to keep an eye out for cheaper options.
“Cost of living pressures are challenge number one in Australia today and we don’t want Australians being unnecessarily over-charged for fuel, which is why we want oil companies to begin dropping their prices.”
Prices are expected to drop very slowly, at about one cent or less per week.

The gap for diesel is sitting at 34 cents per litre.
The increase in fuel prices has negatively impacted 92 per cent of businesses, according to a recent survey by the NRMA.
Nearly 50 per cent of businesses saw their weekly fuel bill increase by $100-$500, while 13 per cent saw increases up to $1000, the survey also found.
