The average person might have trouble watching their spouse get freaky with someone else — but in the acting industry, it’s a common occurrence.
On this morning’s episode of The View, Peter Sarsgaard opened up about what it was like to have his wife, Maggie Gyllenhaal, direct his “passionate love scenes” with actress Jessie Buckley for the 2021 psychological drama The Lost Daughter.
“I recommend it to everyone,” he quipped, sending the co-hosts into hysterics.
In all seriousness, Sarsgaard added, “Me and Jessie and Maggie got together as a team as we should and figured it out as a team. And I’ve never felt safer,” to which Sara Haines joked, “[Gyllenhaal] knows your range in that area.”
Jessica Chastain, who appeared on the hit daytime talk show alongside the actor, couldn’t hold back her praise of the way he was depicted in the film, which marked Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut.

“I saw that movie,” she said. “What I loved so much was as I was watching — I’m so used to those scenes being filmed by men — but I was like, ‘This camera loves this man.’ The way she filmed you, it was so beautiful.”
According to Sarsgaard, it was “nice to be the object of desire” for a change. He continued, “I think for many women, they are quite used to being the object of desire. And for me, it was just a great opportunity to be looked at in a different way.”
Meanwhile, Alyssa Farah Griffin grilled the star about another project he’s working on with his wife. However, he was given strict orders to stay tight-lipped on the subject.
“She just texted me that I’m not allowed to share anything with you,” he said. “I’ll tell you this. We are starting in March and it is a really, really awesome movie that is an original screenplay and I wish I could tell you all about it but I can’t.”
