Pete Davidson candidly admits how he’s been ‘fooling everyone’ with his public persona

Pete Davidson admitted he’s not as confident as he may seem.

“If you guys think I have confidence, I have been fooling everyone,” the “Saturday Night Live” alum told People in an interview published Sunday.

“It’s so difficult to say anything in print and not be afraid to come across the wrong way.”

Davidson, 31, also reflected on how his father’s death in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City shaped his persona.

“I had a really sh–ty childhood and like the worst thing that ever could have happened to me, happened to me when I was 7,” he said.

The “King of Staten Island” actor has since developed a mentality of prioritizing what matters most to him and ignoring the pressures of fame.

“I’ve kind of just been like, ‘F–k it. Like, who the f–k cares?’ You know? And like, ‘F–k everyone,’” Davidson explained.

However, the “Suicide Squad” star admitted to falling into “traps” of neglecting his well-being in the past.

“Trying to be of service to others and not take care of myself and, like, just try people please,” he said.

Davidson described his recent mentality as “newer.”

“At the end of the day, it’s like your family matters and your two or three friends that you have matter. Everybody else can go f–k themselves,” he said.

“And you don’t have to put all this pressure on yourself,” the actor continued.

“This is sort of newer for me. But I think it kind of shows if you see me now … it’s a little different because I went through something pretty tough,” he added.

Davidson has recently been spending more time with his new girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, after Page Six revealed they were an item in March.

We were told the model is “very different from anybody else he’s ever dated” before and has received the approval of his mom and sister.
