Multiple people have been hospitalised and a pet dog is dead over an e-scooter put up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.
A family was forced to defend themselves in their home after an alleged attempted robbery turned violent in south-west Brisbane on Sunday.
The violence began after two men tried to use counterfeit money to buy an e-scooter in Forest Lake.
They allegedly returned with weapons when they were refused.
They scaled the back fence, killing the occupants’ dog, Nala, to lure them outside, police alleged.
Neighbour James O’Sullivan said what happened was “terrible”.
“What’s the point in stabbing a dog? Man’s best friend,” O’Sullivan said.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham described what happened as “barbaric”.
“One was armed with what we were told was a black handgun — which has since been identified as a gel blaster pistol — knives and machetes,” Massingham said.
“The victims have then exited the residence, a struggle has taken place in the backyard.”

The residents used shovels and bats to take on the intruders.
Officers tracked two men in their 20s to a nearby street, and later found a third in Samuel Jones’ backyard.
“I thought he was intoxicated, but then it became apparent that he had quite a bad head injury,” Jones said.
Police said three residents were taken to hospital with stab wounds, with one in a serious condition.
Two of the alleged offenders were also taken to hospital.
All three men are facing charges including wounding and animal cruelty.
