Perth teen left seriously injured after 'senseless' attack

A concerned mother is speaking out after her teenage son was left seriously injured by a "completely unprovoked" attack in Perth.

Louis Hadfield, 17, was allegedly jumped by a group of four men while walking through the coastal suburb of Scarborough on Saturday night.

Hadfield has been left with a bulging disc, sprains to his ligaments and a spinal brace.

His mother, Claudine Hadfield, said the incident was "senseless".

"[I] got a phone call from one of the girls that said, 'you need to come now, Lou's really really bad, he's covered in blood, he's been attacked'," the mother recalled.

"It was a pretty confronting scene when we got there.

"He was attacked [by] four boys, [they] got out of a car and just beat him up."

The 17-year-old striker for the Perth RedStars will not be able to play for the rest of the season, with an uncertain recovery ahead of him.

"He's doing well with his football and we hope this doesn't do anything to him to prevent him continuing down that pathway," his mother said.

"He's gonna live in fear of this happening and he shouldn't be.

"At 17 he should be happy to go out and excited to go out with his friends."

Police said one alleged attacker was described as having dark skin and dreadlocks. Officers described the car as a white Volkswagen Tiguan.

The incident comes two years after fellow RedStars player Danny Hodgson was randomly attacked in a similar manner.

"We're pretty shocked that this can still keep happening in Perth. It's got to stop," Mrs Hadfield said.
