Nail technician Emma Louise Hutton (above) says most names are 'boring' - including her own - and that she wanted to try something different after giving birth last year

A mother has hit back at ‘hateful’ trolls who say her daughter will face a ‘lifetime of bullying’ due to her name.

Emma Louise Hutton, 35, from Sheffield, says most names are ‘boring’ – including her own – and that she wanted to try something different after giving birth last year.

And after settling on the name Elae, pronounced L.A., for her now one-year-old, Mrs Hutton said the backlash has been ‘horrible’.

The 35-year-old, who works as a nail technician, claims she has been branded a ‘chav’ and that she has only given her daughter the unique name to win a competition for ‘the world’s weirdest name’.

‘I’ve had people say that they feel sorry for my child, or that I’ve set her up for a lifetime of bullying,’ said Mrs Hutton.

‘They’ve called me a chav, or that I’ve tried to win a competition for the world’s weirdest name.

‘I honestly couldn’t care less, but I find it so strange that grown adults feel the need to share their horrible negative thoughts on a child.

‘I would never comment on a mum’s post telling her I think her baby’s name is stupid and horrible.’

The mother, whose TikTok video talking about Elae’s name has amassed nearly four million views, told how her own name being common played a huge part in her decision.

She added: ‘Being called Emma was very popular throughout school – and still is. I used to joke with my mum about how many other girls were in my year with the same name. I didn’t want that for my children and I always loved something unique.

‘When a client of mine brought up her friend, who was called Elae, I fell in love with it.

‘My husband was very supportive of the decision, as were my friends – but my parents didn’t like it very much. They love it now, of course.’

While she admits her Yorkshire accent may be the reason people think her daughter is called ‘Ellie’, she also accused those who don’t bother to pronounce it correctly as being ‘lazy’.

Though Mrs Hutton has now stopped correcting those who mispronounce or misspell the name, she says it is still frustrating.

She said: ‘Whenever I do try to correct someone, they just give me a weird awkward smile. So it’s not worth it anymore.

‘I don’t think she’s going to be bullied, as lots of kids nowadays have unique names.

‘I think she’ll get frustrated with having to correct people all the time and not being able to find any toys with her name on.

‘But I don’t regret it at all and will never consider changing it. It’s the most beautiful name I’ve ever seen – and others should get more creative rather than sticking to boring ones.’
