A pedestrian has died after being hit by a truck in the NSW Blue Mountains early this morning, which is causing significant traffic delays.

The truck hit a 68-year-old intersection of the Great Western Highway and Evans Lookout Road in Blackheath about 2.30am.

“It is believed the pedestrian died instantly,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“The Great Western Highway is closed in both directions and motorists are asked to avoid the area.”

Police said this morning they were expecting delays for “several more hours”.

A crime scene was established and officers were awaiting the arrival of specialist police. about 4am.
