Clubgoers have been left terrified after a 31-year-old man was stabbed while inside an inner Melbourne nightclub overnight.

Police were called to Revolver Upstairs on Chapel Street in Prahran about 4am after receiving reports two unknown offenders attacked a man.

A 31-year-old man was treated by paramedics and remains in critical condition at the hospital.

The offenders fled the area before police arrived and were last seen heading along Macquarie Street.

Erica, who was inside the club at the time, said she was “shocked”. 

“We were on the dance floor and all of a sudden six police officers rushed in and went straight out to the beer garden,” she said.

“I think something happened out there. They then closed it down and we really didn’t know what was going on, it was scary.”

Police were called to the scene about 4am. (Nine)

Revolver Upstairs has released a statement following the incident, saying they are “committed to providing a safe and secure environment” for all. 

“We are heartbroken by the violent incident that took place at Revolver Upstairs this morning,” a club spokesperson said. 

“Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this terrible event. Our highest priority has always been the safety of our patrons, artists and staff. 

“We have made the decision to close the venue while we arw working through the initial stages of this situation.”

Detectives are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
