A man has been arrested after his partner, who was allegedly stabbed by an edged weapon, died in a small Northern Territory town.

Police received a report a 42-year-old woman was seriously injured and surrounded by a large crowd at a clinic in Lajamanu about 6.20pm yesterday.

After arriving at the scene, officers declared the woman dead.

“It is believed she was stabbed with an edged weapon,” police said.

Her 46-year-old male partner was arrested nearby and remains in custody.

Police alleged he had been assaulted by members of the community and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Two crime scenes have been declared as Major Crime Detectives investigate her death.

Police expect to charge the man in relation to the woman’s death later this evening.
