Tickets are a shore thing in this New Jersey town.
Parking tickets in Stone Harbor, a Jersey Shore community in Cape May County, skyrocketed 1,600% in May following the launch of a new app payment system.
Stone Harbor Police Chief Thomas J. Schutta told the borough’s council that 564 parking tickets were issued in May, the first month the town introduced the use of its ParkMobile app.
In May 2022, there were only 33 tickets issued, according to NJ.7com.

Prior to the app’s launch, drivers paid for parking near the beach at kiosks that accepted cash and credit cards.
Now, drivers must create an account through the app and add their credit card information, license plate number and make and model of their vehicles. The app alerts car owners when time is up and they have to renew.
Those who are not willing to get the app or don’t have a smartphone can pay by phone.
Since the fine for a parking violation in Stone Harbor is $34, that tickets written in May could earn the town $19,000.
