A woman has been taken into custody after an elderly man was allegedly stabbed to death at an apartment complex.
The incident happened at an apartment in Williams Esplanade in Palm Cove, around 30kilometres north of Cairns in Queensland around 10.50pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a serious assault at the home.
First responders found the 80-year-old man with serious stab wounds before he was rushed to Cairns Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Queensland Police said a 58-year-old woman was taken into custody and is currently assisting police with their inquiries.
No charges have been laid with a police still investigating the cause of the horrific incident.
Detectives were still at the apartment complex at around 7.30am on Wednesday morning with two police car parked outside the Villa Paradiso apartment complex.
The building is located just metres away from the popular Palm Cove beach.

Shocked residents the quiet tourist spot has been rocked by the man’s death.
Palm Cove resident Simon Welsing said the incident was unexpected.
‘You definitely don’t expect it here. Other than the tourists, this is a low-key community,’ Mr Welsing told the Cairns Post.
Tourist Nick Tate who is from the Gold Coast and is visiting the area with his partner and two children told the newspaper he couldn’t believe what had happened overnight.
‘We’ve visited Palm Cove a few times. It’s shocking that something like this would happen here,’ he said.
The man and the woman are not believed to be related.
