Two female childcare workers have been accused of assaulting a 17-month-old boy at a daycare centre in Sydney’s west.

On June 26, police received a report regarding injuries to the toddler at an early learning centre in South Wentworthville, 26km west of the CBD.

Detectives found the injuries were allegedly caused by two childcare workers during separate occasions on the same day.

A 42-year-old woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault, and a 32-year-old woman was charged with common assault.

Both women will appear in Blacktown Local Court on August 27.

The incident is the latest in a series of troubling events to rock Australia’s childcare sector.

Melbourne childcare worker Joshua Dale Brown, 26, was recently charged with more than 70 child abuse offences, including the sexual penetration of a child and producing child abuse material.

A Sydney man who worked at an early childcare centre was also charged last week with using children to create abusive content.
