Paige VanZant first got her start as an MMA fighter in the UFC several years ago — something that she says saved her life.

“I didn’t have anywhere to run to, I didn’t have anybody to turn to, and when it gets bad enough that I had to run into the bathroom and eat my lunch on the toilet in the bathroom because I just felt too scared to eat lunch in the cafeteria,” VanZant told “Good Morning America” in regards to the bullying she faced in high school.

At just 14 years old, VanZant says she was sexually assaulted at a party, which she says completely changed her, even admitting she wanted to end her life because of the pain she faced. “I didn’t see any other way out,” she continued to tell “Good Morning America.” “When you’re in that position, when you’re feeling that much pain, it’s not that you want to die it’s just that you don’t want to be in pain anymore.”

But then VanZant found MMA fighting. “MMA fighting definitely saved my life. It saved who I was as a person, too,” she said.

Although she is no longer with the UFC after her contract came to an end, 28-year-old Paige VanZant is still fighting as she is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling as a wrestler and to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship as a boxer.
