A P-plater was allegedly driving on a suspended license when he sped through a red light and struck a toddler and grandmother in Sydney’s south-west.
The four-year-old girl and 72-year-old woman were waiting to cross Old Glenfield Road, Glenfield at 5pm on Tuesday, when a red Toyota sedan left the road and mounted the footpath, striking them.
Dramatic footage shows the moment before the pair were struck while waiting to cross the road.
They were thrown from the footpath in the collision, critically injuring the grandmother.
The four-year-old girl was thrown into a tree, with emergency responders forced to cut a branch to rescue her.
Neighbours and witnesses ran to help as paramedics made their way to the scene.
The grandmother was taken to Westmead Hospital, where she remains with serious head injuries.
The girl was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition. She has since been discharged.
The 18-year-old P-plate driver was captured on dashcam footage seemingly speeding through the intersection moments before the crash.
He was allegedly driving on a suspended license.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition. He has since been released.
Police say they will be speaking to him ”in the very near future”.
Crash investigators are now trying to figure out the circumstances of the incident.
No charges have been laid.
